Launched in 2007 through a partnership between the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the British Library , WorldWideScience.org began with a modest federated search of 12 databases in 10 countries. It has since grown into a massive multilateral partnership—the WorldWideScience Alliance —representing over 70 countries and providing a single point of entry to more than 100 scientific databases.
