This paper examines the dissemination, thematic structure, and pedagogical value of Kitab Irsyadul ‘Ibad , a concise work on Islamic ethics ( akhlāq ) and jurisprudence ( fiqh ) by Shaykh Zainuddin al-Malibari (d. 987 AH). Focusing on its availability as a PDF, the study analyzes three core themes: (1) the purification of the soul ( tazkiyah al-nafs ), (2) daily devotional practices ( al-wird ), and (3) social obligations ( mu’āmalāt ). Using qualitative content analysis of three widely circulated PDF versions, the paper argues that digital access enhances traditional learning but risks decontextualizing the text’s chain of transmission ( sanad ). Findings suggest that while PDFs democratize knowledge, they require supplementary guidance from certified teachers.
