Use a putty knife to scrape out any remaining old putty, dirt, or debris from the window frame. Clean the frame with a damp cloth to ensure a smooth surface for the new glass.
Oil-based putty forms a skin in 24 hours but takes 7–14 days to cure fully before painting. Do not paint sooner—trapped solvents cause cracking. Latex glazing can be painted in 2–4 hours. Protect the area from rain with a plastic sheet if needed.
