Connolly didn’t start from scratch. He based Wenja on — the reconstructed ancestor of hundreds of modern languages (English, Spanish, Hindi, Russian, etc.). By applying sound changes and grammatical rules backward, he created a language that feels ancient, guttural, yet strangely familiar.
