This method exploits a previously unknown vulnerability in the Xbox 360's hardware, specifically in the CPU's reset circuitry. By carefully manipulating the reset signal, hackers could trick the console into booting up in a special " glitch" mode, allowing them to execute custom code and essentially take control of the system.
