Most educational methods focus on the five external senses (sight, sound, touch, taste, smell) plus the vestibular and proprioceptive systems. Interoception, however, is the sense of what is happening inside the body: heartbeat, hunger, thirst, and the physical sensations of emotion (butterflies in the stomach, tightness in the chest).
