You stick a small piece of reflective tape (included in the box) onto the rotating object. The laser shines at the tape. Every time the tape passes the laser, the sensor counts one rotation. In one second, it knows exactly how fast the shaft is spinning.

Hold the device 50mm to 500mm (2 to 20 inches) away from the rotating object. The laser spot should hit the reflective tape squarely. uni 3220
