Alabama, traditionally known for its humid subtropical climate and extensive outdoor water recreation, has seen a significant shift in tourism infrastructure over the last two decades with the introduction of indoor water parks. This paper explores the development of climate-independent aquatic facilities in Alabama, analyzing how they mitigate seasonality in the tourism sector. By examining key facilities such as the Bertie Maxey Bartlett Recreation Center and various hotel-based aquatic centers, this study highlights the economic benefits, engineering challenges, and the role of these facilities in transforming Alabama into a year-round tourist destination.
