You were told the rope was there to protect you—to keep you from wandering into danger. But eventually, you notice the rope is the only danger. It has been chafing your soul raw for years.

He landed on the neighboring roof with a roll, dispersing the impact, tumbling across the gravel and coming up in a crouch. He didn't stop. He sprinted across the tar paper, leaping a ventilation shaft, and disappearing into the shadow of a stairwell access door.
