The film begins with Thor, the crown prince of Asgard, preparing to take over the throne from his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins). However, during the ceremony, Thor's brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) reveals that he is actually the adopted son of Odin and that he is the rightful heir to the throne. This revelation sparks a conflict between Thor and Loki, which ultimately leads to Thor's banishment to Earth.

Kenneth Branagh, known for Shakespeare adaptations (Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing), deliberately cast classically trained actors (Hopkins, Hiddleston, Alexander, Feore) to deliver the film’s elevated Asgardian dialogue with naturalism, while the Earth scenes were played more realistically.
